Why handstands?

“Try not liking something you’re good at.” - Ido Portal

  1. SAFETY - If you’re ever going to land on your head it’s good to know where the ground is and how to orientate yourself. It may save your spine and ability to walk.
  1. FOUNDATION STRENGTH - In old-time strength culture everyone did hand-balancing and handstand push-ups. In modern times the foundations have been lost and millions of weak and under-developed bodies, minds & spirits are the result.
  1. ECSTATIC TRAINING - They are universally fun and understood for the challenge they present. If you start doing handstands in the park or at the beach the chances are someone else will start doing them too! When you have a handstand you have a fun game to play and something to teach and active adult or child.
  1. UNIQUE HEALTH BENEFITS - Yogic practice involved progressive inversion for its impact on circulation and the lymphatic system. Pressure to the blood vessels of the brain makes those blood vessels stronger. Blood vessels bursting in the brain has dramatic consequences.
  1. BRAIN POWER - Learning to stand on 2 feet takes months of consistent practice for babies. Adults who lose the ability to walk through injuries to the brain and body go through the same re-learning. Learning to stand on the hands demands more of the brain. Use It Or Lose It.
  1. CONSISTENCY - Most adults lack the consistency to achieve what they want to achieve in life. To learn a handstand as an adult takes rare consistency. That same consistency trait can be applied to learn any other new skill or habit needed.
  1. DISCOMFORT - Most people have weak will power. A weak WILL closes the door of infinite opportunities in life. We MUST explore discomfort with persistence. Initially HANDSTANDS are stressful and seem all but impossible. Over time they become easy.
  1. SHOULDERS - The ability to stack the shoulders for a jerk, push press or standing press is a key to great overhead strength. Well developed handstands
  1. WRISTS - Strong wrists are a key strength or weakness of the body. Most strength athletes have under developed forearm muscles but they also have massively under-developed JOINTS. Loading wrist extension and flexion under control with handstands creates a base for
  1. BODY AWARENESS - There is no disadvantage to having great control of your limbs when upside down.
X. BUSINESS CARD - If you learn to to handstands as an adult you’re experiencing Uncommon Success. You can show it to anyone and it can’t be faked. Other factors being equal I trust people who can 5-ball juggle and hand-balance more than those who can’t.
