In the age of information wars, MOVEMENTS are fighting their way into your program.
Whether to help you, or to get their hands in your pockets, experts from every angle are selling you this exercise and that.
The result is coaches and athletes hopping through various movements and philosophies without ever truly knowing the results of any of them.
One of the reasons coaches love ATG is that it has a logical simple approach to exercise selection AND... the program is truly put to the test with 12 week training blocks.
After 12 weeks you can really know if a program is working, or if imbalances are being created.

The Secret Program
Recently KOT guy let us in on the secret of 2 movements.
He gave 2 movements to a professional athlete who has already made $200,000,000 in career earnings, but is now losing minutes and dollars because his athleticism is fading midway through his career.
I've seen this scenario in the past. One star player I worked with said he was on the verge of retirement at 27. He ended up playing until he was 35 after changing his training and lifestyle.
When you have 2 movements in focus, doubt and overwhelm is gone.
So what are the BIG 2?
Well in that case they were:
1. Split Squats
2. Tibialis Raise
As you might have guessed, the scenario was KNEE PAIN.
The athlete was encouraged simply to make gains on these 2 movements to regain his joy of movement... and maybe make another 9-figures for his trouble!

Athletic Imbalance?
But what about his calves, quads, rotator cuff and biceps you ask?
Well... if everything is the focus, then nothing is the focus.
As the athlete progresses with these 2 movements, habits and belief in the system are being built.
We believe in ATHLETIC BALANCE... we want the whole body to be in balance.
But if we can just get the key structures that are being damaged working again, we can leverage that momentum!
This is not 2 movements FOREVER.
This is 2 movements for NOW.
Know Your Enemy
What would happen if everyone you worked with knew their BIG 2 MOVEMENTS?
Would you get more buy in?
Better results?
A faster path to success?
Even if you're training people in person and you know you're going to be executing the whole program well, choosing your BIG 2 MOVEMENTS gives you and your athlete (client) focus. You won't spend extra time on other stuff or rush through the BIG 2 to get to the fun stuff.
Now you might be thinking "WHICH 2? I love them all!"
Tibs and Split Squats will not be everyone's BIG 2.
In the next article I'm going to talk about how to select your BIG 2.
Drop a comment if you've implemented the BIG 2 strategy or something similar!

Note:Â As a strength coach with a professional team, I had this concept a number of times as a SIDE DISH to the main program.
Ultimately, I failed with the implementation more often than not because my solution was overly complicated. Too many different possibilities.
I can't know how many injuries and missed games resulted from not being able to simply implement this strategy, but I can be confident that I would have had better results more often with it.
