Anything you don't have the ability to abstain from is a real weakness.

As humans we have inherent weaknesses.

We cannot completely abstain from food, sex, air, water or love and connection.

Still if we become completely dependent on any of the above, if we don't have any control around engaging with them.

Bad things follow.

We can stop eating.
We must stop eating.
Training the ability to stop increases self-belief, health and performance.
(We should also learn to feast, that's another game entirely.)

Exerting the mental energy required to abstain is a key to greatness.

The ability to back our decisions is a key to greatness.

"To Do Lists Are Common. Stop Doing Lists Are Less Common, And Less Commonly Executed.

History

It's said that ancient greeks and Romans both followed these kinds of methods.

Ramadan is a reset of daily abstinence.

Many religions have ritual fasting.

Sick humans naturally lose their hunger while they heal.

Pets and animals in the wild do the same.

It could be claimed that regular fasting makes a lot more sense than not fasting.

To pass years and decades without an extended fast might be a rare thing in human history.

SCIENCE OF FASTING

1. Autophagy > Remove the damaged components of the cell. This process is up-regulated during fasting.
2. Cellular Apoptosis > Weak cells die off during the challenge.
3. Stem Cell Activation > New healing is stimulated.
4. Growth hormone increase > Regeneration and muscle mass preservation.
5. Bowel Clearing > The bowel is allowed to rest and regenerate.
6. Liver, kidneys, and other organs reset.
7. Immune reset > many white cells die off and regenerate. This can impact auto-immunity positively.
8. Gut Lining > The gut lining has time to heal and cleanse.
9. High Circulating Ketones rejuvenate nerves and have a cleansing impact on the cells.
10. The time gained by fasting can be invested in other activities for personal development or work.

FASTING

Don't eat.

1. When we eat (or do any of the other things above) again we have the opportunity to do it more consciously.
With more gratitude.
Enjoying both the moment and the knowledge that food is life for the body.

2. You will be proud of yourself for completing a fast.
Whether it's getting through to lunch, 24 hours, or beyond.

We need to do more things we're proud of and less of what we aren't.
Enjoy the newfound certainty and self-belief.

3. When you fast your stomach shrinks.
Your cellular sensitivity to nutrients increases.
Your hormones and hormonal sensitivity rebalance.

4. Decreasing baseline insulin is one of the key objectives of fasting and making fat loss a simple process.

5. Fat metabolism is rapidly up-regulated. The body fights to hold onto lean mass so that it's ready to fight or flee. Dumping muscle mass doesn't make evolutionary sense.

6. Muscle loss isn't something to be worried about on short fasts.
If super rapid muscle gain is your goal... you're in the wrong place doing Fat 2 Free.

Types of fasting:

Intermittent fasting - 2-8 hour eating window or less daily. 1-3 meals per day. This type of "fasting" effective long-term daily approach to drop fat.

Extended fasting - 24 hours or longer without eating.
An effective short-term approach to build momentum and drop fat fast. Learning to meat feast without binging is important after extended fasting.

FAQ's On Fasting

Is it SUSTAINABLE?
NO. Eventually, you will die. Fasting is a short-term transformation tool.

I mean, are the GAIN SUSTAINABLE?
YES. There is a desire to catch up with some of the food but not all of it.
Sure you can eat all the calories you have burned and then some, you will have a biological drive to do this BUT if you stick to natures food and keep exercising the discipline you have just demonstrated you can keep your gains!

Staying at your goal body composition for 2 years makes it a set point according to Charles Poliquin who wasn't extremely lean in his 30's but rested at 4-6% in his late 40's and 50's (he had a lot of mass which makes that % more sustainable also)

Is it STRESSFUL?
YES, and NO!
Having poor blood sugar management, cell membrane function, and gut health are extremely common and preventable!

Is being Too LEAN bad for health?
Yes, have you ever been too lean?
Do you know anyone who has been too lean?
How many people can you name compared to those who are too fat?
How many people do you see with GYMNAST / SPRINTER leanness?
The human body is extremely adaptable.
If you have a good amount of fat and other nutrients getting into your bloodstream fat stored in the body is not a big deal.
Fat tissues secrete insulin.
Obese men are hormonally more like women than lean men.
Leaner men are less hormonally like women than obese men.
There is nothing bad about being a woman if you are a woman.
Will testosterone levels decrease? At some point yes. 99.9% of people have never been that lean and would need a huge change to get there.

Should Women Fast
I have heard people make a clear distinction between women who plan to have babies (more babies) and those who don't.
There is a war on fertility and childbirth and children are under attack.

Women planning on children should consider the child as a priority for at least 3 years before having a child. Fasting during this period may help to detoxify the body. Building a surplus of FAT SOLUBLE VITAMINS and other nutrients in fat tissue should be a priority during this time to give the child the best opportunity. The baby's brain and entire nervous system as well as all the cell membranes are going to be built from the mother's blood. What's stored in the mother will be transferred to the baby. There is some research suggesting that the mother will heavily detoxify into the baby if she is overly burdened with toxicity.

Women not planning to have more children can get very lean without issues other than a loss of fertility. Some women can remain fertile while being very lean. More research should be done on how this impacts the baby.
