Amino acids

  • You are a protein-making machine.
  • Structurally we are primarily protein (with a lot of mineral water).
  • The quality of the proteins depends mostly on diet and environmental stimulus (genetics also influence protein quality).

  • We store fat as a long-term fuel, make special molecules like hormones with it and we build nerve linings and cell membranes with it. - Carbohydrate is a part-time fuel that we can make if we need them.

"Death Begins In The Gut" - Eli Metchnikov (Nobel Peace Prize)
Hippocrates said, "All disease begins in the gut."

At least 10% of the immune system is in the mucosal lining.
Leaky gut chronically over-stimulates the immune system weakening it to fight foreign pathogens.

Calm the gut lining!
None of the following works if you have bloating and sensitive gut linings.
Fasting on broth/gelatine/collagen will help with this process.

> Avoid inflammatory foods.
> If it irritates the skin it irritates the gut. Be careful about going to far with irritating the gut!

Glutamine is a simple fuel for the cells of the gut lining and fast-growing cells. Take glutamine fasted 5-10g / hour for 10 hours is something that was recommended by Charles Poliquin as a protocol from functional medicine practitioners. I have used this protocol with good results.

Gelatine, slow-cooked meats, collagen will all help to improve the gut lining.
Consume them daily if not with each meal.

Pre-made broth concentrates and store-bought options are fine or you can make your own and even blend the bones into the mix by making it yourself.

Mixed essential amino acids can also compliment this process.

GLUTAMINE: Conditionally essential amino acid found in muscle tissue and used as a quick energy source and versatile amino acid. Rich in muscle meats.

GLYCINE: Rich in connective tissue. Key for detoxification. Commonly deficient and associated with neural and energetic dysfunction.

Can improve memory and cognition + energy, muscle, and collagen.

3-5g / day for adults (up to 30g).
1g for kids.

PROLINE: Key for connective tissue.
