ABOUT ME
I was born in Wollongong on the 9th of February 1988, I started playing hockey at the age of 4.
I made my first state team playing for the U13 NSW side at the age of 12 before being named captain of the same side the following year. I continued playing for NSW through juniors and made the NSW National League team the Waratahs at the age of 18, debuting for Australian in the u21’s team that same year.
In 2007 I played my first major tournament for the Australian u/21’s team winning a gold medal in Sydney at the AYOF (Australian Youth Olympics Festival). I competed in the same event in 2009 in Sydney where we beat India in the final. I was then named int the team to travel to Singapore to compete at the Junior World Cup where we finished third.
I underwent surgery in November 2007 and then again in July 2009. Due to injury, I was forced out of opportunities to make my international debut but I persistence paid off when I was offered an AIS Scholarship in December of 2009.
I know live in Perth and train under super coach Ric Charlesworth. I was lucky enough to get selected to make my debut for the Kookaburra’s in Hobart in January 2011 against Korea where we won the 3 game series 2-1.
After the series we came back to Perth to continue training for the World Cup, I was fortunate enough to get picked for that, I travelled to New Delhi, India to compete at the World Cup where we won gold in front of nearly 16,000 Indians going for Germany! It was the best feeling of my career so far.
In 2011 I was part of the history making Kookaburra’s team that became the first hockey side to win four Champions Trophy titles in a row, defeating Spain 1-0 in the final.
My new chapter is London….bring it on.
Check out his interview with KeeganSH.com here. Kieran has been a friend of mine and an inspiration for me since we first trained together when he was still in high school! I wish him and the Kookaburra’s all the best in the lead up to London! I’m sure that with Ric Charlesworth there will be a lot learned both on and off the field!
