Modern-Day Health Paradox
We are joining gyms in record numbers. (Yes, that was a headline in today’s news). The personal training industry is expanding exponentially due to client demand. Almost every product in the supermarket is tagged low-fat, no-fat, fat-free, salt-reduced or similar. There are wonder-drugs or pharmaceuticals available to patch up any health condition. Weight-loss TV shows and magazines give us endless options for cutting out evil calories. There are many more examples to show that we are doing a good job of following the modern rules. Yet, hypocritically, statistics come out on a daily basis indicating that as a modern society we are getting fatter.
Next time you are in a public place look at the people around you, it’s hard to argue with the stats. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease… name your disease, chance are it’s on the increase and at a rapid rate. As a race we are fat and we are sick.

How can this be?
The human body wants to live in a healthy, lean state. We appear to be making a serious effort to do what we are told and still there has never been a fatter, sicker bunch of slobs in the history of humankind.
This is a modern-day paradox and still we turn to modern-day sources for solutions – the same health advice that brought us to this sorry state is being sought again and again to fix it.
You’re fat? You’re unhealthy? Most fitness professionals and doctors will tell you to do more cardio exercise, eat less fat, eat more grains, take this pill… In many cases it is only adding fuel to the fire!
At some point, we will eventually see through the modern-day propaganda and actually take note of the results (or lack of results)of our current health approach. Some food for thought: –
- Do real health answers lie with modern-day methods or perhaps with the obesity-free, diabetes-free, heart disease-free generations of our indigenous ancestors?
- Is the human body really as simple as ‘Calories In vs Energy Out’ or could there possibly be hundreds, thousands maybe even millions of other physiological processes continuously occurring underneath our skin that should also be considered in a real health solution?
- What kinds of food has the human body been designed to eat, digest and utilise for real health?
- Do you think our healthy ancestors hunting and gathering boxes of Special K and bottles of Gatorade?
