I wrote this for a magazine I’m about to start doing some writing for.. it’s sometimes good to reflect on where you’re come from and why you’re going where you’re going!
Where are you going??
Coming from a Rugby League family and seeing my father (Brian Smith) coaching, followed by my uncle (Tony) and then my brother (Rohan) it might have seemed like the most obvious thing for me to follow the same path. While I’m very proud of all the amazing achievements my family has made 5 years ago I would have given you 1000-1 odds that I would be here working as the head strength and conditioning coach for a super league team.

I spent those 5 years backpacking the world learning languages and living in indigenous communities in Mexico and Australia and saw over 30 other countries. At the end of my adventure I knew that I had to put my passion for health and performance to work!
Now in my second year with the Catalans Dragons, thanks to Head Coach Trent Robinson taking what even I thought was a long-shot, I’m proud to be with the French club working not just towards Superleague respect and glory but also working to bring a new generation of Frenchmen into Superleague.
My greatest passion is in helping those around me realise their unlimited potential to achieve health and performance. I believe that optimal performance can only be achieved through optimal lifestyle. Today we’re seeing more and more players who realise that what they do off the field can make a million pounds (euros or dollars) difference over the course of their careers.
Players like Anthony Minichiello and Craig Fitzgibbon have left a legacy on the game that I would like to see continue.
With the days of “drink hard, play hard” fading the 21st century athlete is looking for the perfect nutrition plan, lifestyle, weights program, recovery routine, conditioning work, speed work and skill development for longevity and success.
Everything matters.
This holistic approach is the one that I believe in both for the Dragons and anyone looking to get the most out of this opportunity we call “life.”
