When you want to gain muscle without gaining fat the best most important thing is to progress.
- Absolute Strength.
- Dense Strength < work in a given time period.
As you approach or pass 100 muscle number the finer details of the diet become more important.
Things to experiment with include:
- Carb cycling / back loading. Carbs post workout or in the evening
- Carnivore diet - this pushes protein higher for most and often decreases body fat.
- Intermittent fasting - optimising insulin sensitivity & hormone production can help
- High frequency protein consumption
These approaches contradict each other but have all been highly effective for me and others at different stages.
Cycling between different approaches can be good for the metabolic adaptations.
Others do better being super consistent on the same approach.
Some of this comes down to personality type.
Other factors are genetic and environmental.
Since most aren’t answering the question of how to get into their best ever shape it’s likely that by posing yourself the question and staying accountable you will get rare results.
