Because I said “I'm going to squat 200 kilos this year” because I've committed to training every day, I do this session.
We're about to go to the pool.
It's a Sunday. It's about the standards you set yourself, it's about what's normal and I love seeing my daughter join in on my training.
We went to the pool for like five hours after this.
There she goes, she's been able to do them since maybe three and a half or four but I said I just need to do this one set and then we'll go.
So I made it into one set.
Load it, lift it. Load it, lift it.
Are you going to hit your biggest all-time numbers when you load and lift it? No.
Can you get to the weight that you want to get to in a pretty short time? Yes.
So I literally did no other warm-up, load it, lift it.
While my daughter was getting our stuff ready for the swim and I'm glad that I did it.
I didn't feel like lifting that day but I did it anyway and I definitely felt better after and I almost always, it's very rare that I lift and don't feel better afterward.
You feel worse before, you feel worse sitting around doing nothing physically and the weights are feeling better. Surprise, surprise.
I don't know what my best beltless back squat is.
I would say probably 150 maybe 145, it's got a 157 with the belt
So yeah I would say probably 145, 150 something like that.
So it's actually not that far away from feeling terrible with 40 kilos on my back.
On day one of this, here I am squatting to 110 in just a few minutes.
110,120, starting to feel okay and it's game on.
You build momentum like that, you build confidence in yourself.
So yeah it was 110.
The next day was 120 but it didn't record.
So took the plates off, back to 80 kilograms.
Just a couple more reps and it's time for the pool.
As simple as that, that makes the day a win.
The more days that you have a win on the better.
If you touch the bar, it's a win.
80 kilos are starting to feel like a nice smooth easy weight.
The body's starting to get used to and accepting squatting.
I can feel the knees adapting, the ankles adapting and so it's as simple as that.
Is that enough to gain?
I'm sure it is. Win.
